Privilege vs license
A Counseling Compact privilege is not a second license
As of July 30, 2026 the compact is live in Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Ohio. Enacted is not the same as operational. CE still follows your home-state license.
Privilege vs full license
A privilege to practice lets an independently licensed counselor work in another live compact state. It is not a second board license, and associate or supervised licenses do not qualify.
What CE still means
You complete continuing education for your home-state license. Remote-state privileges generally do not add a separate CE cycle. If you keep a full license in a second state, that board’s hours still apply.
Both states must be live
Your home state has to be issuing privileges, and the client’s state has to be receiving them. A state that only passed the law cannot yet honor a privilege.
Keep full licenses you still renew
If you hold a second full LPC/LPCC/LMHC, track that board separately. Do not delete it because the compact exists — only live privileges replace extra licenses, and only in those live states.
