Privilege vs license
The Social Work Compact is not a license you can use yet
As of August 2026 the Social Work Licensure Compact is enacted in about 35 states and is not issuing multistate licenses. If you practice in more than one state, you still need a full license in each one — and CE for each board.
Privilege vs full license
When the compact eventually goes live, a home-state multistate authorization is designed to cover other member states. Until then, endorsement or a second full LCSW/LMSW is the path that actually works.
What CE still means
Every full license you hold still has its own hours, ethics, cultural competency, and cycle. Do not stop tracking a second state because the compact passed. Compact CE, once live, is expected to follow the home-state license only.
Enacted is not operational
A state can be a compact member on paper while the data system and applications are still being built. The commission has pointed to a 2027-era data system, not a 2026 privilege you can print.
Keep the licenses you currently renew
If you already hold FL + GA, or six LCSWs, keep logging CE against each board. The compact does not retire those obligations this year.
